Key Events and Dates - 2019/2020
Following is a list of key events and dates that the Robotics Club has each year. Parents are welcome to attend the competitions. If your Robotics student chooses to go to a competition, they are required to use the school provided transportation that leaves and returns to WHRHS. However, as a parent, you are welcome to drive to a competition/event and attend on your own. There is no charge and it is a great opportunity to see what it’s all about.
Parent Meeting - Mon. October 21, 2019
This meeting is held at 7:00 p.m. in Room 4 at WHRHS. It is a presentation by the Robotics advisors to the parents of the Robotics team members to inform the parents, especially parents of new members, about what Robotics is and what to expect during the year. WHEAT Foundation members will also be present to speak about our involvement and support for Team 41. You can view the 2018 Parent Presentation by clicking on this link here.
STEM/Robotics Open House - Fri. November 15, 2019
An open house held at the high school to help parents, families and the community learn more about STEM programs at WHRHS and specifically about the robotics team. It is from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the high school South Cafeteria and Room 4. If you are unfamiliar with the school, signs will be posted to show you the way. It is an opportunity to see the prior year robots in action, to see the lab where it all happens, and to hear current RoboWarriors talk about what they do.
Team Building - Amazing Escape Room - Fri. Jan. 3, 2020
The robotics team will be having a fun night at the Amazing Escape Room in Greenbrook, NJ to promote team unity, and also to give new team members a chance to get acquainted with the returning team members. It begins at 7 pm on Friday 1/3/2020. The cost is $26 per student which is to be paid at the door. All participants must have signed up for this in advance through a google document sent out from our team captains.
Season Kick-Off - Saturday January 4, 2020
The Robotics Team learns the rules of the game planned for this year’s competition and what the design requirements of the robot will be. They get started by brainstorming ideas and starting the design of their robot.
Build Season - January 4, 2020 up to Robbinsville Competition
This year, there is NO Stop Build Day as there was in all previous years, so teams can continue working on their robot up until competitions begin. In our case, Build Season starts with the season kick-off on Saturday Jan. 4 and will last approximately 10 weeks until the Robbinsville competition starting March 13. During this time, students work on the robot Monday through Saturday as their schedules permit. Meetings run generally until 7 pm during the week and typically from about 8 am to 4 pm on Saturdays.
Stop Build Day ("Bag and Tag") - None This Year!
In past years, the end of the six week build season was called “Stop Build Day” and teams had to put their robots in a large bag, close it with a security seal, and log the information on a ‘Robot Lock-Up’ form. This was called "Bag and Tag" and signaled the end of work on the robot. This year, teams will be able to continue working on their robot up until their first competition as well as between competitions. Although not having the deadline will reduce the time pressure on the team, Head Advisor Mr. Ponzio commented that it will probably make all of the teams more competitive because all will be able to build better robot by having more time.
Robbinsville District Competition - March 13-15, 2020
Our first official competition for 2020. In past years, our first district competition has been at Mt Olive. This will be our first year at Robbinsville.
Montgomery District Competition - March 27-29, 2020
Team 41 made it to the quarterfinals of this event also and won the award again for the best control station.
Regional Championship - Lehigh University - April 2-4, 2020
The team must qualify for this event based on its performance at the two district competitions. Last year, Team 41 did qualify for this event and did well. Click here HERE to read the details about how they did.
National Championship - Detroit - April 29 - May 2, 2020
Depending on the outcome of the Lehigh tournament, this will determine whether Team 41 makes it to Nationals. Let's go Team 41!!!
